Over
four thousand years ago ancient Egyptians believed that there was life
after death. Preparing for the afterlife was not easy. You
first had to preserve the body which is called mummification; two you had
to protect the body in a tomb in the pyramid; and third you had to bring
the deceased body food and drinks.
Three steps to preparing for afterlife
The Egyptians believed that every person was composed of three elements: Body, Ba, and Ka
Body- is the physical body and a unique individual. As a person ages so does their body. The Egyptians whole life was created by changing and the last change was death.
Ba- A Ba was unique to each person, but is not a physical feature. Ba is translated as "manifestation." Ba is like what we call "personality" or "character."
Ka- Life force- is the difference of being alive and dead. Ka enters each person at birth. Ka is not a physical trait, though it has a define shape. Ka means "sustenance"
Religion:
Because
Egyptian's religion
had so much to do with their afterlife, Egyptians devoted their life into
preparing for their survival in the new world.
Fun
Fact: After the body is embalmed they put a mummified heart back in
and begin to mummify the deceased body.
Ancient Egyptians were polytheism,
which means believes in many gods. Actually they believed in 2,000
gods.
