The Rosetta Stone
The
Rosetta Stone is a stone that was found in Eygpt near the town of Rosetta
also known as Rishad. It was found by a french solider, in 1799 AD. The
stone is black with inscriptions from approximently 196 BC. The
inscriptions read a list of all the good things the Pharoh, Ptolemy, did
for the people and rulers of Eygpt.
The inscriptions were in three diffrent written languages,Greek, Demotic*and
Hieroglyphics. Because the Inscriptions were done in several diffrent languages,
English men were able to translate the inscription. Which also enabled
them to be able to translate other hyroglyphics in pyramids, tombs and
other artifacts.
* demotic was the common script of eygpt
